Walking...Running....and Biking Oh My

This week the Green Bay Area Newcomers is bringing to you, the local trails in the area to get your exercise, enjoy a day in nature, or a place to whip out the camera and explore Wisconsin scenery. The 3 trails I will be mentioning today are the East River, the Fox River Trail, and Mountain Bay Trail. Most of the trails are part of the Wisconsin State Park System which is overseen by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also known as the DNR.

On the Fox River and Mountain Bay Trails, a daily pass or annual state trail pass is required for bicyclists, in-line skaters, and horseback riders-(on designated areas of the Fox River Trail). Daily passes are available at the trailheads and self-service locations along the trails. Annual state trail passes are valid at all Wisconsin state trails. There is no fee for walking or jogging on the trails or for trail users younger than 16.

The East River Trail is a 6.28mile trail running along the East River through Allouez, Bellevue, DePere and Ledgeview. Trail hours are from 8am-9pm. The trail is narrow and winding as it closely follows the contour of the East River so is more suited to leisurely paced activities. Park like scenery and smaller animals are usually found on this trail, along with the river and fish in it. The Trail will also take you through Green Isle Park, another environment blossoming with Green Bay nature, people, and sports activity.
Tips: no animals and motorized vehicles on the trail

The Fox River Trail is a 25-mile trail span along the Fox River from downtown Green Bay through Brown County Communities of Allouez, Depere, Rockland, Wrightstown and Holland. The trail includes a paved surface that will sooner transition into crushed stone.  When you get into Depere the trail scenery turns away from the river and gives new landscapes of light industrial structures. Furthermore, it will then transition one more time into rural and agricultural scenery.
Trail Hours are 5am-9pm and all bicyclists, walkers, joggers, rollerbladers, horseback riders, and walkers with pets are welcome. Daily passes are $4 and annual passes are $20 and are valid at all Wisconsin State Trails.

Tips: Dogs have to be on leashes and cannot extend pass 5 feet

No fee for walking/jogging on the trail

No fee for trail users under the age of 16

Public restrooms available along the trail

The Mountain Bay Trail is an 83-mile trail running from downtown Howard to Wausau. The trail offers year-round recreation to both the casual and the outdoor enthusiasts. Bikers, hikers and snowmobilers are welcome. The level grade and smooth surface make this trail suitable for bicyclists, walkers and joggers. Each bicyclist age 16 or older needs a Wisconsin State trail pass while using the trail. Children 12 years and older need a $4 Daily pass or $25 Annual Sticker pass; FREE 11 years and younger.

Tips: Pet need to be on a leash, 8 feet or shorter. You must pick up after your pet.
ATVS are not allowed on the trail
