December Stress and Busyness


December tends to be the most stressful time of year…and the time when people are more anxious & depressed.  On the other hand…many people are extremely happy at this time of year!  J

Here are a few ideas for you…

Breathing helps the body to energize, balance & de-stress!

The Belly Breath:
1 ~ Put yourself in a comfortable position & place your hands on your stomach
2 ~ Inhale slowly & deeply, you will feel your stomach expand like a balloon
3 ~ Let the stomach fall as you release old, stale air by exhaling slowly
4 ~ Inhale easily, feel your stomach expand again
5 ~ As you exhale, press the air out of your stomach

The Calming Breath:
1 ~ Do 5 to 10 Belly Breaths
2 ~ While inhaling, imagine that you are breathing into a tense or painful part of your body
3 ~ With each exhale, imagine tension streaming from your nostrils
4 ~ Do the Belly Breath & imagining until you feel relaxed

Begin your breathing with equal counts (in-one, two, three, four; out-one, two, three, four).  When ready, change to a count of four in and eight out.

Walk outside & breathe in some nice fresh air!

Laugh ~ a lot & often!

Sing ~ even if you can’t hold a tune!  Sing while driving…while cooking…while cleaning.  And dance too!   My grandmother used to hum all the time.  And when she would say my name…she said it with musical notes to it…Very cool!   J

Distract yourself with something “better” than what has you stressed.  Try thinking of someone else or helping someone…that’ll keep your mind off of “your issues”.

Maybe it’s time to leave that stressful job and do something that makes you happier…makes you more responsible for your actions…makes you feel more “a part of” the company (part of the solution)…something that gives you joy and not dread!  Maybe it’s time to start your own company with your talents!  If not now…when?
