Our
kidneys and bladders work very hard for us to clean the blood and dispose of
waste.
The
Urinary System includes the kidneys, ureters (long tubes that carry urine from
the kidneys to the bladder), bladder, urethra and sphincter muscles. Although the urinary system’s primary
function is to produce and excrete urine, it also plays an important role in
removing cellular waste products from the body and maintaining body fluid
balance. The risk of developing urinary
system problems increases with age, as kidney function naturally declines and
urinary system muscles lose tone and weaken, which can lead to incontinence…the
involuntary leakage of urine. Urinary
incontinence is reported to affect 15-50% of women in the USA and roughly 17%
of men over the age of 60. Another
frequent urinary system health problem is urinary tract infections
(UTI’s). UTI’s are the second most
common type of infection, accounting for an estimated 8.3 million doctor visits
annually. Although UTI’s are more common
in women…one in five women will develop a UTI during her lifetime…they can
occur in men and especially individuals with diabetes are at higher risk for
developing a UTI. Furthermore, according
to the National Kidney Foundation, one in nine adults (e.g. more than 26
million Americans) suffer from some form of kidney disease and millions more
are at greater risk of developing kidney disease, such as those with diabetes
and hypertension (high blood pressure).
Advice
we received from a doctor when a family member was having issues…
·
DON’T
hold it…go to the bathroom as soon as you can
·
DON’T
push…the bladder will make “bands” around on the inside…these bands will hold
liquid allowing bacterial infections and yeast infections to occur
Some
considerations:
·
Dietary
changes
·
Good
supplements
·
Exercise
specific for the bladder
Here are a couple of websites with exercises
for you to consider:
Both exercises should be used together but if
you can only do one, the top one (Kegel) would be the better choice.
Excellent supplements to consider:
OGF
~ helps every cell in the whole body, high
antioxidant (VIP!)
Cellu-Smooth
~ tighten tissue
Urinary
Maintenance ~ strengthen and build
Urinary
System ~ for
kidney health and urinary system function
JP-X & Juniper Berries
are urinary system tonics
If blood in urine ~ Marshmallow
to reduce inflammation and Golden Seal as an antiseptic
Consider yeast ~ Bifidophilus
for friendly bacteria, Pau D'Arco, Olive Leaf, Yeast/Fungal Detox, etc.
Consider parasites
~ Para Cleanse or herbs like Black Walnut, Artemisia, Herbal Pumpkin, etc.
And I would consider putting essential oils on the
belly using safe carrier oils like NSP Irish Moss Hand Lotion, NSP Aloe Vera
Gel or NSP Massage Oil. Other carrier
oils that would be great are Grapeseed Oil, Olive Oil or Emu Oil. Buy organic if possible.
Essential Oils ~ Wild Oregano, Tea Tree, Geranium, Clove Bud,
Frankincense, Bergamot, Sandalwood
Food
Choices to Consider:
Yes ~ black cherry juice
(no sugar), asparagus, watermelon seed tea & lots of pure water!
No ~ caffeine, coffee,
tea, chocolate, sugar
